Grading and Math Standards
Homework:
Homework is extremely important to master objectives for the day. Homework questions will typically be found online, while the students will be asked to write their problems and answers in their spiral. You should expect homework 3-4 times a week and should not take more than 30 minutes (45 minutes for 2nd hour).
Grading Scale:
Daily homework (with notebook check), weekly ALEKS topics, are both worth 10 points. Quizzes are worth 50 points while Tests/Projects are worth 100 points. Test, Quizzes and Projects will be graded on a traditional scale. Daily work is scored based on the following grade scale
95-100% 10 points 40-54% 5 points
85-94% 9 points 25-39% 4 points
75-84% 8 points 10-24% 3 points
65-74% 7 points <10% or no effort 0 points
55-64% 6 points
Absent work procedure:
Online assignments are available for students, who feel confident enough, to work on even if they are absent. Students have one extra day to complete their absent work and notify teacher of its completion.
Late work procedure:
Late work is considered any work not completed when collected/graded/assigned. The late work procedure will also take place if a student fails to show or justify (write a sentence explaining what they thought) their work in their spiral.
Any work handed in late will receive a 20% deduction of earned grade. Late work will be accepted up until the Friday of the week following the week it was assigned. Late work not completed by the assigned Friday will result in a zero. Late work will be graded before or after school with the teacher; unless other accommodations have been made. Late work policy is per the Junior High.
Extra Practice:
In the students’ textbook they have their individual practice (assignment/homework) followed by extra practice. If a student is not satisfied with their grade from the online assignment they can complete the independent OR extra practice, grade it before or after school, and turn it in by the Monday following the original due date to replace their unsatisfactory grade.
ALEKS:
Aleks is a wonderful program we will be using in the classroom. Every Monday students will be asked to show their ALEKS score and work in their notebooks. Students will need to complete 10 ALEKS topics every week (Monday 12:00 am - Sunday 11:59 pm).
